The Global Compact is an initiative that was launched in 1999 by Kofi Annan, the former UN Secretary General, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
This pact invites companies to adopt, support and implement 10 basic values according to their influence in the following fields:
To date, 3,800 companies have committed themselves to implementing the actions.
This association has 405 members and is presided over by Bertrand Collomb, CEO for the Lafarge group; 58% of the member companies employ < 500 staff.
2005: creation of a waste disposal plant (principle 7). 100% of effluents treated with 98% reduction in pollution. The disposal of 100% depolluted water in natural surroundings is an objective set for 2009.
